Aidan and Brandon singing at their Christmas Concerts. The X-BOX is here – after much anticipation in the months leading up to his birthday, the morning of the 24th rolls around and just after the crack of dawn we are up and ready for presents… actually Brandon is the most excited as he loves to open presents. Once the x-box is open I’m up to spending the next hour connecting it to the TV and sound system. Once we are all set we get straight in to Kinect adventures before transitioning to Halo Reach. Later in the day we have a few friends over for cake and to play on the xbox – the only question is how can we pull them away to go to bed? We took three days before the end of summer to visit Baltimore inner harbor. The Hilton overlooking Camden Yards was our residence for the two nights but unluckily the Orioles were not in town. There was a nice little swimming pool and a great breakfast buffet and other then being just a tad too far from the harbor it was a great place to stay. First day we visited two of the historic ships (USS Constellation and the submarine USS Torsk) and then took off around the harbor with the Urban Pirates. We got back to terra firma just as the heavens opened up and dumped torrential rain on the harbor for 30 min leaving behind a beautiful rainbow. Day 2 was the Aquarium and Day 3 the science museum with lots of harbor walking in between. We all had a great time and would highly recommend a 3 day visit. It’s 6:45pm on a stormy Friday night at AmeriKick in Medford and a small group of White and Yellow belts gather in front of the friends and family to test their skills to move to the next level in the mixed martial arts. Aidan sits cross legged with his peers in hushed concentration watching the red belts put on a show in practice for their imminent Black belt ceremony. Some of these red belts were only a little older than Aidan but have been practicing since they were 3 years old and punched, kicked and rolled with confidence across the dojo floor. Soon it was time to start, the group stood, stretched, warmed up and then started on their kicks, punches and self defense. Throughout the Sensei kept up a dialog of self improvement, standing up to bullies and generally using these skills to grow in confidence and stature. Aidan acquitted himself with honors and soon was standing with his yellow belt looking extremely pleased. Then off for ice cream which generated even more smiles. Brandon’s first T-ball game, off to a bit of a rocky start as he really didn’t want to join his team mates for the warm up and practice. Alternating between Mommy and Daddy nothing we could do could get him out on to the pitch. Luckily his team was up to bat first and he had the highest numbered shirt and so was batting last. Sitting next to his friends he slowly got into the game and when his turn to bat came up he picked up his bat and walked out like an old pro… |
